Tell Us a Bit About Yourself..
My name is Samantha Morris, I am a spouse, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, but most importantly I am a very proud mother to a 10 month old baby girl, who I just adore! I am also attending school working on a nursing degree.
Apart from creating things, what do you do?
Aside from creating, I enjoy spending time with my family. They're extremely important to me and if it weren't for them, I'm not sure where I would be today.
Where do you get your creativity from?
Where do you get your creativity from? There is no doubt in my mind that my creativity comes from my mother. From crocheting to quilting to scrap-booking and cake decorating, you name it she can do it. I believe the word "multi-talented" describes her perfectly. Growing up with a mother who is into just about every craft hobby, it was difficult to not get involved myself.
What got you into the craft hobby?
What got you into the craft hobby?
While I was pregnant with my daughter, I was always on the search for unique headbands. After seeing what was out there I thought to myself, why not just make my own? It was the perfect solution...so after a few months of making them for my daughter & nieces, I was convinced I could sell my product. I opened my Etsy shop http://www.etsy.com/shop/raeannsbabyboutique in April of this year and find great joy in creating new pieces to share with everyone.
How would you describe your creative process?
How would you describe your creative process?
Relaxing. When I have some spare time, I go into the craft room and just sit for a few moments and brainstorm. It usually starts with making one little flower and from there my imagination runs wild. Creating is my outlet, my time to enjoy.
What is your most favorite item that you have ever produced?
What is your most favorite item that you have ever produced?
My favorite piece was created to match a summer dress for my daughter, we like to call it "Fruity." The bright colors are just happy and combining different colors with textures is really pleasing to the eye. I've made a lot of different pieces, but this one still sticks in my head.
How did you get your business off the ground?
How did you get your business off the ground?
I'm not sure my business has left the ground yet, I'm still in the process of getting my name and product out there. The Avant-Garde Art and Craft Show will be my first show and a great opportunity to show my work and talk with people. The most important thing for me to remember is this brings me joy and when it is no longer doing so, I have lost the meaning.
What are your goals with your business?
What are your goals with your business?
Ultimately, it would be a dream to one day have my own shop where I can create and distribute my pieces worldwide. To see one of my pieces on TV would be the ultimate satisfaction for me. At the same time staying true to the handcrafted aspect is extremely important to me. Anything can be mass distributed, but a handmade piece has so much more love and value!
What do you do in your free time?
What do you do in your free time?
Between my family and my business I don't have much free time, but when I do I like to just sit and relax.
